Cisco training is the way to go for those who want to learn about routers and network switches. Routers hook up networks of computers via the internet or dedicated lines. We'd recommend that you should start with your CCNA. Don't be tempted to go straight for the CCNP as it's a considerable step up - and you need to work up to it before you take this on.

Where this will be your first stab at studying for an IT examination then it may be wise to practice with user-skills and software training first.
Ensure all your qualifications are current and also valid commercially - you're wasting your time with studies which provide certificates that are worthless because they're 'in-house'. Only nationally recognised qualifications from the likes of Microsoft, Adobe, CompTIA and Cisco will have any meaning to employers.
