One Great Family Genealogy Uncovering Can Alter Everything
It is possible for one person in a family to feel like they are the only one. They might be the only one who is tone deaf when everybody else loves music. They might be the only religious one in a family that loves to sin. That one might feel like he or she has nothing in common with any of their relatives. But One Great Family genealogy discovery can change everything.
Not so long ago genealogy was a very expensive undertaking that required more free time than most people had available, but not anymore with use of best genealogy software. It often required travel to distant parts of the globe. Normal people with normal lives didn't even attempt to trace ancestors further back than their grandparents.
Nowadays, thanks to the internet and other modern technology, genealogy is a game everyone can play. People are finding that their own families are every bit as exciting as families of famous people. In fact some people are discovering that their families are families of famous people.
People usually start by simply identifying their own parents, grandparents and great grandparents back as far as any living member of the family can remember. They go through old boxes and albums and find birth certificates, marriage licenses, letters and pictures. Then they start contacting relatives they haven't talked to in years to find out what they have.
At this point, relatives who haven't seen each other in years will start communicating. In many cases, the only reason that they never talked to each other is that they thought they had nothing in common. This is especially true if one is a tone-deaf archaeologist and the other is a musician who never goes to bed before sunrise.
The two cousins who hadn't seen each other since they were ten years old might meet at a funeral. They start talking about the letters that Sally's mother wrote to her brother, June's father while she was in the Peace Corps. Maybe June has those letters and some pictures that Sally would like to see.
The long separated cousins might discover they have differing versions of stories about how Granddad met Grandma or where and when and why they got married. Fortunately it is now easy for the cousins to chat by email and to scan and send documents. They can copy photos with their cell phone cameras. Thanks to the internet and search engines it will also be easy for June and Sally to track down other cousins and find out what old documents and family memorabilia they are harboring.
More questions will arise. Documents will be organized and blank spaces will appear. It's time to start visiting websites.
