What Every Driver and Owner Ought to Know about HID Lights
There is an increase in the popularity of HID lights. Still, perhaps the concept of this high intensity light is still unclear to you. Well, here are some things that ever car owner should know about HID lights and it is basic to understand what sets it apart from halogen.
HID lights is not very different from lightning. An electrical discharge ignites xenon. It does not have a filament but it causes the bulb to light by igniting 2 electrodes using an electrical discharge. This can only happen in an air tight quartz capsule that has xenon gas in it. That's why HID lighting is also called xenon lighting.
Most of the HID lights produce significant doses of UV radiation /en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UV_radiation>, and must use UV-blocking filters so as to prevent degradation of lamp fixture parts that is UV-induced and also fades out dyed items illuminated under the HID lights. Human and animal exposure to HID lights working without anti-UV filters or some protective mechanism are at risk of getting eye and skin injuries . Many HID lights have been created to turn off right away when the anti-UV mechanism on the outer layer breaks .
The main difference of HID lights with halogen light bulbs is its brightness. There is a 300% difference between HID and halogen and this is comparing only the 35W HID light bulb to the 55W halogen bulb. In terms of color temperature, HID lights rate at 5000K which is way higher than the 2300K of halogen. In addition, the color of HID is more similar to daylight. This does wonders with visibility on the road. It is even said to be more durable than halogen bulbs because it can withstand up to 10 times more road vibrations.
HID kits function as high performance bicycle headlamps, heavy duty flashlights and various other applications that require portable compact lighting , since they produce great amounts of light for each unit of power consumed. As HID lights only consume not even half what a tungsten halogen light its equivalent does , smaller and lighter-weight models of power supply is viable for use.
HID kits also grow more popular in diving as high-end dive lights. Color temperature that permeates the water well is produced by the mercury-halide lamps. In addition, they are far more energy efficient than halogen lights that heat up more and give off less visible light per heat ratio , thus allowing for lengthier duration of use and smaller power source . One of the setbacks of HID light use in diving is that these lights are more sensitive . Another issue they have is that they take longer to restart .
It is a misconception that the temperature of the light is directly connected to its brightness. People have the notion that hotter is brighter. The truth is that temperature has little to do with luminosity. Color is more affected. A 3000K light bulb emits a yellow color while a 4300K emits white. 6000K HID lights emit light blue light which differs from 8000K which emits blue and the 10000K that emits a rich blue color. Despite the differences in the color, you can be assured that in terms of brightness, all the temperatures are 300 percent brighter than the halogen headlights that your car comes with.
Considering the many benefits of using HID lights, it is not at all surprising that a many car owners are making the switch and getting rid of their halogen bulbs. Its so simple to convert. Professionals aren't needed because you can do it yourself.
Those are the little known things about HID lights. Are you ready to make the trade?
