Home Improvement Search The Important Facts About Modular Homes
The goal to become energy efficient has increased insulation requirements throughout the country. For example, Michigan recently raised their minimum requirements for all new construction for insulation to R-value 21 for walls and R-value 49 for the roof. Higher Michigan energy code requirements combined with electronically controlled efficient furnaces, is a major trend in housing. These changes not only cut energy costs to the homeowner, but also conserve energy resources and are a key solution to the problem of reducing emissions.
Many people think that modular homes are little more than cookie-cutter manufactured mobile homes. But this assumption, according to Grant Smereczynsky, CEO of Building Systems Network, could not be further from the truth. As Smereczynsky explains, modular homes are very poorly understood by the general public.
Drive past any construction site, and you'll see a dumpster filled to overflowing with scraps of wallboard, lumber, siding and roofing materials. The homeowner pays for those items - and they are all thrown away.
The modular home has been a fixture of the North American landscape for several decades now. What began as a somewhat simple design has expanded out to what it is today, and that is a modern dwelling, complete with all of the standard amenities you would find in any other custom home.
These days modular homes are flattering very fashionable among the community because their manufacture and easy to use make them very familiar among the buyer. A modular home is unique because it is built in a climate-controlled factory. Modular housing construction allows for hundreds of options and design possibilities and your builder will work with you and your home manufacturer to determine the type and design of modular home that best suits your needs.
Modular homes are by far the cheapest on the market as opposed to manufactured homes and site homes. Cost vary and this all depends on what type of modular home you have chosen and which manufacturer is building the modular home but here are some estimates and general information that may be of some help.
Some modular home builders will even include landscaping as a part of the process; you can inquire when you order your modular home whether it will be included in the price. But when you sit down and total how much you have just saved by having a home ready to move into in weeks instead of months, you may feel like paying for landscaping is no big deal!
Time costs money and modular homes save money because the building time is reduced due to the site preparation and building of the home being done simultaneously lowering your interest on construction loans. Modular homes are bargains but still do not expect unrealistic discounts when comparing other types of housing costs.
