Be sure you take the time to include your actual location on your Twitter profile, no matter where you're based. Your business will be operating right across the entire planet. That's the fun part about Internet marketing. People still want to know where in the world you're located. Putting your real location in your profile is good for this. It can also be helpful when you want to build a local business following. Why would someone in your town want to partner with you if you are telling other people that you live "on Earth" or some other such nonsense? Besides, when you use your real location, others can find you more easily if they're searching for that specific area. And, of course, it is important that you are honest about your location. Don't just retweet interesting messages, send a reply to the person who wrote it. Don't be afraid to compliment someone if he or she posts something you like. It will only take you a minute or so to reply, and it's well worth the time. You may want to ask for clarification about something. If you simply want to express appreciation for their post, this is a good enough reason to reply. Even if someone has never written to you, that doesn't mean you shouldn't initiate the contact. This shows that you are following the conversation and not just waiting for people to make the first move with you. Participating without prompting is one of the best ways to attract the kinds of followers that you want to attract.
Be aware that anything you tweet is immediately made public - with the exception of direct messages. Essentially, people can check your profile page and read your previous tweets, as well as see any @ replies you made in the past. For this reason, and many others, don't let your entire twitter feed become sales based. It's better to have conversations and to share information - even when it won't directly lead to sales - than it is to be overly pushy in your sales pitch.
