Good Communication is the Key to Online Marketing Success
Internet marketing can be overwhelming, particularly when you are new and just getting started to learn about the field. As you sort through information in articles and online forums, you'll see all sorts of lists featuring "how you too can be the next big thing!" These lists are going to look like negate each other. One will say that you should be patient if you want to be the next big thing. Another will state that you have to be extremely smart about business if you want to be the next big thing. Nevertheless, others will state that creativity is the ingredient to wild and fabulous success. And, naturally, there are going to be scores of sales pages claiming they have the software program or class to teach you how to be the next big thing.
Here's the facts: All of these things are important (OK, maybe not the software program, but the other things). You do need to have patience, business savvy and creativity if you want to be a success. Nonetheless, none of those things are going to matter if you are unable to clearly communicate all of them to the people you want to purchase from you.
Good communication means more than merely coming up with a terrific sales page. A good copywriter can deal with that component of your project. Good communication is more than having a beautiful website with an extensive FAQ section. You can get those by hiring skilled designers and writers. Good communication involves being good with interpersonal communication and in direct copy too. How do you get that?
1. Respond to every email you receive within 24 hours of it hitting your inbox. This isn't a joke. Your reply doesn't need to be long. All you have to do is write a short note that says something like "I got your e-mail and will be sending you a full reply shortly." Try includuding an a portion of the email the sender has written when you do this. This helps the the other person to distinguish your email from the auto responders that everybody else uses.
2. Don't let the phone go on ringing. Try to not be a call screener. You should always try to answer the phone by the third ring. This is true even if you truly don't wish to talk to the person making the call. The good news is that there is, nevertheless, an exemption to this rule. There's no need for you to be attached to the telephone day in and day out. Instead, simply set certain "business" hours during which you can answer phone calls. Put out these hours on your web site and in your voice mail message too. And, obviously, every person who leaves a message deserves a return call.
3. Check in with individuals to make sure that they got your memos, emails, messages, etc. This will tell the person that you really care about keeping in touch with them. It will help your clients and buyers trust you further if you really take the time to ask if they have any questions about your messages so that they can ask you to clear up anything they need clarified.
