The Green Future of Plumbing
Plumbing is a profession that has changed considerably in the last 25 years or so. 25 years ago, the materials that were used in a home s plumbing system were not very eco friendly. For example, most pipes and such were made out of very heavy metals, such as copper, steel, and cast iron. In order to repair or replace these pipes, a plumber had to use dangerous tools, like hacksaws and blow torches for soldering.
In today s modern times, plumbers are very conscientious of the environment and how their choices of materials and repair methods can affect their surroundings. The ultimate purpose of plumbing has always been waste removal, and this is one area where plumbing procedures has improved drastically.
For example, in the past, toilets that used less water were less efficient; however, they are now just as effective as standard toilets. These toilets reduce water usage by a considerable amount. Today, homeowners are able to choose from a wide range of eco friendly products, from dual flush option toilets to waterless urinals. Low flow water faucets and showerheads are also becoming increasingly popular.
If you are looking for eco friendly plumbing options for your home, tankless water heaters are another option you might want to consider using. These water heaters do not use less water, but they use a fraction of the energy that a normal water heater would use to heat the water. Many plumbers are also now using environmentally friendly pipes in their projects. For example, flexible epoxy pipes are now the norm. These pipes last longer than those made out of heavy metals, and they do not corrode, leak, or leach harmful substances into the Earth.
An increasing number of homeowners are using rainwater collection systems in their homes. Gray water technology is increasing in popularity, and there have even been improvements made in green” roofs. A green roof uses more insulation, which cuts down on energy use and the heat island effect you create by releasing less heat into the neighborhood you live in. These revolutionary technologies combine efficient water and energy usage. In addition to being more cost effective and affordable, these new options also make our Earth a happier place.
