Quick Search Engine Optimization Strategies
One of the quick strategies you can use to help improve how a search engine like Google or Yahoo will find your Web Site is to change your basic keywords into long tail keywords.
If you are like me, you probably did not even know that keywords had a tail. Well apparently, they have either a short or a long tail. Here are a couple examples:
Short Tail Keyword = Martial Arts (short and generic keywords)
Long Tail Keyword = Private Martial Arts in California (specific and focused phrase of 3 to 5 words)
There are two very important reasons to use long tail keywords - the first is that search engines are more likely to list you on the first page (or first set of pages) for this set of keywords as opposed to trying to compete with a more generic keyword, which will have thousands to millions of competitors. Just imagine how many web sites have the word "travel" on them and then consider how many would have the phrase "ride elephants in Thailand."
Second is that the people that visit your page are more likely to be the people that are interested in your product or service and thus more likely to buy from you. So although it might seem like you are driving less traffic - you are actually driving more targeted traffic and this is important because you can't convert people to your web site if they can't find you and if you narrow down your audience you will essentially be making solid use of the less-is-more philosophy.
Once you understand these two basic facts, you will want to tear apart your Web site to be sure that you have all of the basics covered. This means that you will want every page of your site is congruent with the long tail keyword you are using. This is easier than it sounds. Simply put is means that your Page Title, You H1 header tags, your meta description, and contend in the body of each page shares the same long tail keyword. Then you come up with different versions of these keywords and make NEW pages that do the same thing.
So what is the quick fix secret to search engine optimization?
It is to make a list of long tail keywords for your product or service - then create separate pages on your Web Site that target these keywords and ensure that all of the details match and use the same long tail keyword.
